Children’s teeth begin developing before birth. As early as 4 a period of time, the first primary, or baby tooth, to erupt through the gum are the bottom central incisors, followed closely by the top central incisors. While all 20 primary teeth normally appear around age 3, the timing and order of their emergence vary. Oral care should start soon after the baby’s birth. Gums should be cleansed after each feeding. You can begin cleaning your child's teeth as early as they appear.
Fixed teeth begin developing around age 6, beginning with the first teeth and upper central incisors. This procedure continues until nearly age 21. Adults have 28. Fixed teeth, or up to 32 counting the third molar (or wisdom teeth). Always clean your baby's gums after feedings. Clean teeth with a clean, wet towel or cotton pad. Parents must brush kids's gums daily using a clean, wet toothbrush and a pea-sized amount of fluoride paste. Plan a dental examination within 6 and 12 months of age, and make sure to keep note of your child’s cleaning to maintain good brushing habits.
